Lab 10

1. Spatial Statistics Tool

For part one of lab 10, the spatial statistics tool I decided to choose was analyzing patterns; the Average Nearest Neighbor Tool on Lab 4 exercise 5a. According to "tool help," this tool calculates a nearest neighbor index based on the average distance from each feature to its nearest neighboring feature and the results are accessible from the results window. This tool retrieves five values consisting of the observed mean distance, expected mean distance, nearest neighbor index, z-score, and p-value.

Lab 7&8

LAB 7 MAPS
Chapter 9

Map: 9a

Map: 9b

Chapter 9 Question:
1. A join is a combination between two data tables in one table and a relate is when a record in the layer attribute table may have many matches in the non-spatial table. When tables are related, one can highlight records in either table to see matching records in the other. An example for a join would be locations of malls and the relate would be a table attribute that show the stores inside the mall.
Chapter 8&10 Question:
1. Three common operators used in spatial queries >, <, and =.

Lab 6

For this lab I decided to pick a certain county of California, therefore I chose the San Joaquin County in Stockton, CA. For both maps I inserted the census blocks just to show the county of San Joaquin for display because I was one of the students undergoing the range issues of this lab. I chose earthquakes for my second map because if one is from the state of California, earthquakes are one of the major natural disasters and I was curious to see if Northern California exhibited a good amount of earthquakes. I noticed that majority of the northwest coastline of Northern California had a fair amount of shock, but when one notices the northeast of the San Joaquin County there are very little quakes that take place in this county, which makes sense.

Lab 3 Questions
1. The projection that is used in exercise 13a is Albers Equal Area Conic.
2.  After going through the tutorial, the WGS84 Datum seems most common.
3. The largest U.S. state in area is Alaska .
4. In step 19 of exercise 13a, Texas appears to be the largest state.
5. Export a separate map following step 5 in exercise 13b
6.  The off-set between the Albers and Lambert projections in exercise 13b in step 5; the cities are in the wrong states. For example, Columbus, Ohio is in Kentucky; Nashville, Tennessee is in Alabama; Grand Rapids, Michigan is in Indiana; Auburn, Alabama is in Florida. Also, Myrtle Beach, Barnstable, and Manchester are in the ocean.

2. The country population of Australia is 17,827,520.
3. To determine the depth of the ocean you would use Bathymetry.
4. An attribute table of interval vector data is the type of file for number 2.
5. A data frame is a set of data that appears in the table of contents that is viewed in a layout view as a thumbnail of the map in data view.
6. The focus of the second data frame are the Diverging Flight Paths layer and the Area of Disappearance.

Lab 1: Three Maps

* Description: I picked this map because I was born and raised in the city of Las Vegas, N.V. One of our famous landmarks is The Strip. Many individuals visit Las Vegas, N.V. because of the casinos and extravagant hotels, which most of them are located on The Strip. This map shows all the major casinos in the exact order they are in if you are on Las Vegas Boulevard. This map is also color coordinated. All of the casinos are blue and the streets are yellow. Las Vegas Boulevard is the major street you would have to be on to see all of the hotel/casinos. I find this map interesting because it also shows other routes to take in order to reach Las Vegas Boulevard. If any of you have been to Las Vegas and visited The Strip you all experienced the crazy traffic. So knowing different routes will help you enter through the back of the casino's which is an easier way to help with parking for a quicker way to reach all the gambling and sightseeing!

* Description: I picked this map because I recently moved to the Los Angeles county and I was unfamiliar with the freeways. I found myself always getting lost because these freeways are pretty confusing. In the state of Nevada, we only have 5 freeways we needed to be familiar with. This map shows mostly all the freeways one could take to get from one city to another. I find this map interesting because it shows the different boundaries between the counties and the freeways. Another thing this map has is the distance between California cities by miles in the upper right hand corner which is always convenient.

*Description: This is a map of Spain. The reason I picked this map of Spain is because it is one of the countries I am looking forward to visiting. This map is Spain's Tourists Attractions and places of interest. I find it interesting because being an outsider looking in one can notice all the different countries based off how it is color coordinated. For example, if you were interested in The Autumn Festival in Madrid, by clicking on the link it will give you a brief description on all the Festivals and Celebrations across Spain.

*Description: I chose to create my map and post a video about Venice Beach. The first time I ever went to Venice Beach was when I was 18 with a group of friends. My very first reaction was that it was an ordinary beach, but what made my experience even better was the Venice Beach Board Walk. This board walk has a bunch of shops, musicians, hippies, food places, and individual vendors which is always great to see the talents and creativeness of other people. Big Daddy Pizza & Funnel Cakes, located on the Ocean Front Walk, is one of the best pizza and funnels cakes places to go to if you love pizza and sweets. Every time I go to Venice I always have to eat at Big Daddy Pizza & Funnel Cakes because the food is great and the price is very affordable.
